The National Supreme Council and the National Grand Chapter stand in solemn unity to observe Lung Cancer Awareness Month this November. We dedicate this time to shine a light on the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women, honor those who have battled the disease, and support the critical mission of research and early detection.
Fighting Stigma, Fueling Hope
Lung cancer is a serious disease that affects people regardless of smoking history. It is a time for all of us to eliminate the stigma surrounding this illness and focus on compassion, education, and finding a cure.
- Early Detection Saves Lives: The primary goal of awareness is to educate the public about screening eligibility. For high-risk individuals, low-dose CT screenings can detect lung cancer early, when it is most treatable.
- A Call for Compassion: We extend our support to the patients, survivors, and caregivers who navigate the challenges of a lung cancer diagnosis every day. Your resilience is an inspiration to us all.
Ways Our Members Can Support the Cause
In keeping with our commitment to charity and service, we encourage all Chapters and members to take action this month:
- Wear the White Ribbon: The White or Pearl Ribbon is the international symbol for lung cancer awareness. Wear it to spark conversations and show solidarity.
- Promote Screening Information: Share resources from organizations like the American Lung Association and the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer about who should be screened for lung cancer.
- Support Cancer Patient Transportation: As organizations dedicated to benevolence, consider contributing to the Kim T. Chapman Cancer Patient Transportation Fund (if applicable to your organization) or local programs that help patients get to their vital appointments.
- Advocate for Research: Support organizations like the Lung Cancer Research Foundation and LUNGevity Foundation that are funding breakthroughs in early detection and treatment.
Let us be the voice of hope and action this November, working together for a future where all lung cancers are detected early and treatable.
In Service and Solidarity,
The National Supreme Council and The National Grand Chapter
