The National Supreme Council and the National Grand Chapter are proud to recognize American Diabetes Month this November. We stand united with the more than 38 million Americans living with diabetes and the nearly 98 million with prediabetes. This is a critical time to raise awareness, promote prevention, and support those impacted by this chronic condition.
The Call to Awareness and Action
Diabetes is a complex disease that impacts individuals and families across all our communities. Our organizations are committed to the principle of service, and that includes encouraging the health and well-being of our members and the public.
- Know the Facts: Understanding the risk factors, early signs of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and the importance of blood sugar management is the first step in the fight.
- Empowerment through Education: Education is key to prevention and living well with diabetes. We encourage all members to utilize resources from organizations like the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF).
How We Can Make a Difference
In the spirit of our charitable mission, we encourage our National Supreme Council and National Grand Chapter members to support American Diabetes Month through the following actions:
- Wear Blue: The Blue Circle is the global symbol of diabetes awareness. Wear blue this month, especially on November 14th (World Diabetes Day), to show your support and unity.
- Promote Healthy Living: Host or participate in community health initiatives that focus on healthy eating, increased physical activity, and risk assessment for Type 2 diabetes.
- Support Research: Consider supporting organizations dedicated to research for a cure and improved treatments, helping to lighten the burden on those currently managing the disease.
- Community Walks and Fundraisers: Join a local "Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes" or another awareness event to raise critical funds and demonstrate solidarity.
Let us work together to educate our communities and contribute to the vital mission of finding a cure and improving the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
Committed to Service and Health,
The National Supreme Council and The National Grand Chapter
